Baseball and Your Business
With the World Series in full swing I felt it would be fitting to pass on this article written by one of my mentors named Ben Sturtavant. Ben is a top 5 money earner with Lightyear Alliance and has helped me a lot personally in my business. Here is what he had to say:
In addition to being a full-time MLMer I also have the pleasure to continue one of my passions in life - I play semi-pro baseball. So much of baseball translates to Network Marketing. When coaching new reps we MUST teach them that there is no such thing as failure in MLM - just attempts that didn’t get our desired result.
In baseball the best hitters in the league have a batting average of .300 - in other words they don’t reach base (their goal) 7 out of 10 times. To a “newbie” in MLM who has 7 leads out of 10 tell them they aren’t interested, well, they view that as “failing” 7 out of 10 times. The earlier you can help someone move away from this thinking the more likely it is that you extend their longevity in their MLM business.
Let’s face it, we associate “failure” as being a negative - which in its purist form is. However, in MLM there is no such thing as failure. For those of you who have yet to learn this I hope this
finds you. For those of you who know this already it is your responsibility to pass this information on. It is such a shame to see people give up on their dreams and aspirations because they don’t understand that MLM is nothing more than a process that must be exercised consistently. This is just the same type of process as hitting in baseball. If I want to be a good hitter I know that I must go through the process of practice (to improve my swing and
increase my chances of achieving my goals) and games (to give me opportunities to achieve my goals). If I never stepped into the batter’s box I’d never have the opportunity to succeed.Remember this the next time you think you’re not getting the results you want. I remember feeling frustrated when I’d get into the “dry spell” of MLM - you know where no matter what you do it seems like you can’t find anyone who wants what you have. I’ve had the same slumps in baseball where it seems like I can’t buy a hit. However, I don’t quit the game. Why? Because I know it’s a matter of time until the process works itself out. Your MLM process will do the same. Stay the course, continue to work on yourself and help others do the same. Your success is inevitable and failure is NOT an option!
