Motivation for Home Workers

Allan Cohen wrote some tips that I read recently.  He says that you should “Convince yourself that you’re truely ‘going to work’ by establishing an early-morning routine similar to that of someone who works for a company.  Helpful: Get up at a normal workday hour, dress in sharp business clothes… set asside a certain time to arrive in your home office to begin the day.  Also:  It may help to get in your car and drive around the block so you feel as if you’ve ‘arrived’ at the office.”

I like most of these thoughts, but some of them seem silly.  A friend of mine laughed when he read the last line about driving around the block.  But, if that is what it takes to get yourself into the right state of mind to work from home, then do it.  Reutines are deffinately important.

Personally, I only dress in nice business attire when I am going out to meet with people or do other things outside my home office.  This is one of the beautifull things about working from home, you can wear whatever you want.
