Ten Ways to Reduce Stress

Stress is one of the surest killers of your health and time.  People that are able to handle the stress of working for themselves are ten steps ahead of the game.  Here are listed ten ways to be able to reduce stress.

1.  Understand that you have some measure of control over your own life.  People who sit around feeling like victims will never be able to reduce stress because they don’t know they can.  Take Action.

2.  Make choices to make stress manageable and learn how to think in a positive way.  Abraham Lincoln said: “A man is about as happy as he makes up his mind to be.”  Take responsibility for your own life.

3.  Make changes in your life, and in your daily routine.

4.  Keep all elements of your being healthy - Spiritual, physical and emotional.  If more stress comes along you’ll have some breathing room.

5.  Set attainable goals and make practical choices about your life.  Stop being a perfectionist.  Be realistic.  If you continually set unattainable goals, you’re creating your own stress.

6.  Evaluate and identify the source of stress.  Then minimize or eliminate the stresses.  If you know that every time you see your sister it drives you crazy, you have to choose either to resolve whatever dificulties you have or stop seeing her.

7.  Practice things like reducing your debt.  Many marriages fail because of fights over money.  If your stressed because of finances, get some financial counsiling and learn how to get out of trouble.

8.  Take time out to play.  do something fun with friends or a crossword puzzle by yourself.  Act silly with your grandchildren.  Read a book.  Play and stress don’t easily coexist.

9.  Learn to say “no” and stop over-committing yourself.  There are only 24 hours in a day.  If you’ve committed yourself to do too much, you’ll be so stressed that you can’t finnish.  The only way to stop over-committing yourself is to know what you’re really committed to.

10.  Don’t be afraid to seek emotional support from family and friends.
